Dana E. Harbin

Prefers to Use Her Experience to Assist Policy Holders

Dana Harbin has over 26 years of legal experience in representing both insureds and insurers in first-party and third-party insurance disputes including litigation involving contractual and extra-contractual litigation, mediation and arbitration. Dana has extensive knowledge and experience with liability policies, including commercial general liability, commercial and personal auto insurance, construction liability programs including OCIPs and CCIPs, directors and officers liability, employers liability, errors and omissions, and homeowners liability policies. Her experiences also extends to property and casualty claims-handling, underwriting, policy and product development, agency contracts and agent liability, regulatory compliance and licensing, and all forms of indemnity/risk transfer agreements.

As a writer, public speaker and educator, Dana is highly qualified and proficient in training on the complexities of policy interpretation, claims adjusting, and complex legal principles involving contractual and extra-contractual rights and liability under various types of insurance policies.

Professional/Community:
Dana served as Adjunct Professor at Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1998 where she created and taught a course on insurance law, including overview of insurance and risk transfer mechanisms, multi-jurisdictional legal interpretations and standards of law, complex legal scenarios and resolutions based upon actual experience.

Dana also served as vice-chairman and public member of the board of directors of the Surplus Lines Stamping Office of Texas from 1993 through 1996, where she provided direction, oversight and advising authority and service relating to the daily operations of the Stamping Office.

Dana has served as a volunteer Certified Ombudsman and Advocate for Long-term Care Residents through the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. She also participates in non-litigation private dispute resolution services.

Dana frequently travels with crisis response teams to provide relief to victims of disasters including Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and various hurricanes and tornado disasters throughout the nation.
